Meridian engaged by world class Fishing Resort

News Release – July 31, 2008

(Vancouver, British Columbia)  Calgary headquartered Meridian Merchant Capital Canada Ltd. today announced that it has been engaged to advise one of Beautiful British Columbia’s best known and loved fishing destinations, Shearwater Resort and Marina.

“It’s always exciting to work with a client in the leisure/hospitality industry,” explained Meridian President and CEO Keith Turner.  “Last month we helped a client buy an NHL team.  This month we’ve been engaged by the entrepreneurial founder of one of North America’s premier fishing and eco-tourism destinations, which is truly an honour for all of us here at Meridian.”

Shearwater, the "Gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest,” is  located on the calm and protected waters of the Central West Coast of British Columbia. The company’s strategic location is the centre of commerce for the region and vital port of call for mariners heading to and from Alaska via the inside passage or travelling throughout the BC Coast.  Situated across from Bella Bella BC, 60 miles west of Bella Coola on Denny Island, this year around vacation resort and marine service centre has all of the amenities one could ever wish for in a wilderness environment.

Shearwater is also the only remote coastal sport fishing/vacation resort on the coast of British Columbia with a private paved airstrip!

Founder and President Craig Widsten has literally built his own community over decades of growth including most recently a  freshly constructed fishing lodge to meet the needs of an ever growing number of sport fishing guests. Shearwater also boasts hotel accommodations, a bar and restaurant, transient moorage for sailboats and power boats, fuel dock with propane, marine repair shipyard with a haul out and boat storage facilities, grocery store, liquor store, hardware store, laundromat, showers, BC ferry terminal, paved air strip, boat rentals, and all of the bait, tackle and fishing licenses!

Demand for the services and amenities and the general growth of destination eco-tourism and sports fishing has caused Mr. Widsten to begin looking at new growth strategies and real estate development. Widsten believes, “this area of the coast currently parallels where the West Coast of Vancouver Island was 25 years ago”.

“With our expertise and access to capital, we intend to help Craig take advantage of the opportunities before him,” explained Turner.

Widsten has established an enviable business reputation with over 60 years in the community.

“It truly is a spiritual place - it is no wonder that First Nations peoples settled here at the beginning of time,” explained Widsten. “They are our neighbours today and many of the people from Bella Bella are working at our vacation resort and help make it what it is today.”

As the company web site www.shearwater.ca concludes, “Whatever your goal is, Shearwater’s sheltered waters and pristine location ensure that you will have the trip of a lifetime! Be sure to contact us to discuss the possibilities.”
